This session would demonstrate how to employ patient-centered approaches to discussing obesity. Participants would identify simple lifestyle strategies to treat obesity and improve their skill and level of comfort when prescribing medications to treat obesity. A key takeaway message would be recognizing the benefits of treating obesity first, thereby improving the status of the many obesity related disease seen in family medicine.
Nicholas Pennings, DO
Nicholas Pennings, DO, FOMA, FACOFP is board certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine. He is chair and associate professor of family medicine at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine at Campbell University. He serves as the medical director of the Campbell University Health Center. He is the Executive Director of Clinical Education for the Obesity Medicine Association. Dr. Pennings is a champion for advancing the education of health professionals through the development of core competencies in obesity medicine education and incorporation obesity education into medical education via live and virtual platforms.
