This presentation will condense and discuss the 2021 Update to the Clinical Practice Guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the prevention of HIV infection in the United States. The goal to gain familiarity with the protocols and comfort with providing this service to your patients. We will discuss the three FDA-approved agents, recommended counseling, testing to initiate therapy and ongoing monitoring to continue treatment. Finally, special considerations of discontinuing therapy, off-label use for episodic use in men who have sex with men, implications of pregnancy and breast feeding, and financial consideration, will be discussed. If you can manage oral diabetic medications, you can manage PrEP.

List the approved agents and Indications for PrEP for HIV infections as defined by the CDC
Learn the counseling, testing and monitoring recommended by the CDC for providing PrEP of HIV infection in your patients
Review special situation involving PrEP as described by the CDC, including off-label uses, pregnancy/breast feeding and financial considerations
