This presentation focuses on the phenomenon of intimate partner violence; its prevalence; and how it presents in a healthcare setting. Emphasis is on encouraging all medical providers to gain comfort and feel relaxed in an understanding of the relatively simple but powerful role in diagnosing and managing this common problem. You will be encouraged to explore ways to be involved in preventing intimate partner violence (IPV) and empowering others to do so. A special emphasis on the emerging epidemic of teen violence is touched on. You will understand how IPV presents to them in the outpatient setting, understand the signs and symptoms of IPV and how to diagnose it, and understand appropriate treatment and referrals.
