Every physician already is a leader in the realm of providing medical care. With this background, education, training and experience, there is no one more prepared to lead our health systems, hospitals and medical organizations of all kinds. However, the skills that physicians learn and utilize so well to benefit their patients are not fully fungible to translate to implementation in other leadership arenas. This presentation will cover those leadership skills that are exactly the same for the leader and the physician, as well as those that are implemented in the opposite way for the physician and for effective leadership in other arenas. Finally, this presentation will showcase those leadership skills where the physician and the leader should implement them in an identical manner, but often do not, to the detriment of the leadership situation.

Learning Objectives:
List two examples of skills that leaders and physicians implement in the identical manner
List two examples of skills that leaders and physicians implement in very different ways
List two examples of skills that leaders and physicians should implement in an identical manner, but leaders most often do not
