This session provides information on how the Veterans Health Administration and their LGBTQ+ Health Program work to provide as comprehensive care and support as possible for LGBTQ+ veteran patients and employees. We will go over how the VA works diligently on diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure the healthcare environment is a safe space for LGBTQ+ veteran patients and their loved ones while also ensuring employees feel they can be their authentic selves without retaliation. It is imperative in healthcare to educate ourselves on how to be the best ally we can be, which is not just medical knowledge but knowledge about how race, gender identity, and sexual orientation factor into how one cares for the whole health of others. At the end, participants will be able to demonstrate how to be the best LGBTQ+ healthcare ally with the knowledge of how the VA strives for this goal each day.

Learning Objectives:
Define the VA LGBTQ+ Health Program and the role of the Veteran Care Coordinator (VCC) and the Special Emphasis Program Manager (SEPM).
Describe VA LGBTQ+ and gender diverse services, supports, documentation, and community resources.
Demonstrate how to be the best health care ally when working with LGBTQ+ veterans/individuals - patients and co-workers.
