Why did you choose this residency program?
I wanted a program that would give me solid training in rural family medicine while also letting me really hone my OMT skills. This program ended up being exactly what I was looking for—a perfect balance of hands-on experience and opportunities to grow in both areas.
Why did you choose family medicine?
The variety and versatility of the field.
What is a typical day like in your life as a resident?
It really depends on the rotation, but one thing that stays the same is that I always carve out at least an hour in the morning to just enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and take some time to reflect before diving into the chaos of the day. It helps set a positive tone and gives me a moment to reset.
What do you like to do in your time outside of residency?
Anything creative, being outdoors, and all things ‘90s.
Why did you volunteer to join the Resident Council?
I chose to join the Resident Council OMT Subcommittee to connect with residents across the country who are dedicated to teaching and advancing their osteopathic education as we progress in our clinical careers. It’s been a really enjoyable experience so far.
What is your one word of advice to students?
Breathe. Taking a step back and just pausing to breathe can help you reset, regain focus, and remember that this is all a journey. It's okay not to have everything figured out right away—what matters is showing up, staying grounded, and being kind to yourself along the way.
When was the first time you realized you wanted to be a physician?
My parents like to tell the story that when I was 8 years old, I casually said I wanted to be a doctor like my oldest brother—and that was pretty much it, decision made!
If you could meet one famous dead person, who would it be?
Kurt Cobain
