As the ACOFP Foundation Board of Directors met to discuss the upcoming campaign announcement, this quote from Ghandi was referenced as a beacon, of sorts, to those in the room:

“The sign of a good leader is not how many followers you have but how many leaders you create.”

Family Medicine Forward, the newly announced campaign from the ACOFP Foundation, highlights the importance of supporting early career osteopathic physicians.

“As dedicated stewards of ACOFP, our role extends beyond patient care,” shared Carol L. Henwood, DO, FACOFP dist., ACOFP Foundation Director and Chair of the campaign. “It involves nurturing and mentoring the future leaders of our profession who will carry forward our legacy. This campaign is designed to empower and support the next generation and in doing so, ensure not just skilled osteopathic family physicians, but visionary leaders. By engaging in this initiative, donors contribute to ensuring the future of our profession for years to come.”

The campaign launched today at the ACOFP 2024 Convention in New Orleans and will support career osteopathic family physicians and future leader alumni with expanded leadership development. It also aims to address obstacles, such as increased representation and enhanced patient support. More specifically, it will allow for programs that early career physicians have been requesting, including Future Leaders Next Level Conferences, one-on-one coaching, formal mentorship, alumni networking, leadership opportunities and more.

“The purpose of the new Family Medicine Forward campaignis to address the evolving healthcare landscape and emphasize the critical role early career osteopathic family physicians play in shaping the future of osteopathic family medicine in perpetuity,” said Paul A. Martin, DO, FACOFP dist., ACOFP Foundation President. “The ACOFP Foundation firmly believes that well-trained osteopathic family physicians, with the appropriate leadership skills and mentoring, are in the best position to improve the health of their patients longitudinally and in turn the communities that they serve.”
