Everything you need for managing and maintaining your family medicine board certification.

ACOFP submits CME credits directly to the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) monthly on your behalf. ACOFP only keeps track of CME earned through ACOFP activities. You can view your AOA CME Activity Report by logging in to your account on the AOA website.

If you would like to speak with a Customer Resource Center Representative about your AOA CME Activity Report, call 312.202.8000 or email crc@osteopathic.org

If your AOA CME Activity Report is missing any credit you earned from ACOFP, please email us at elearning@acofp.org.

Physicians certified through any AOA specialty certifying board demonstrate their expertise through the 4 components of Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC):

Get all the details at American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

  • Component 1: Active Licensure - A physician must hold a valid, active license to practice medicine.
  • Component 2: Lifelong Learning/Continuing Medical Education - For the 2022-24 certification CME cycle, family practice diplomates are required to earn a total of 120 credits of CME. 30 credits must be AOA Category 1-A CME and an additional 30 credits must be Category 1-A or 1-B. The remaining 60 credits can be Category 1-A, 1-B, 2-A or 2-B (including AAFP and ACCME accredited activities as defied by the AOA).
  • Component 3: Cognitive Assessment - Physicians are required to participate in the AOBFP Longitudinal Assessment.
  • Component 4: Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement - Physicians are required to engage in continuous quality improvement through comparison of personal practice performance measured against national standards for their medical specialty.

Diplomates who obtain certification in OMT are required to complete eight (8) hours of approved OMT hands-on training every nine (9) years or successfully pass one (1) performance examination every nine (9) years.

ACOFP has an AOBFP-approved OMT hands-on curriculum with workshops available at the ACOFP Annual Convention & Scientific Seminars and OMED. Your institution or local/state chapter may contact ACOFP at elearning@acofp.org to discuss offering a workshop locally.

The American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP) is one of 18 certifying Boards of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). General certification is achieved through satisfactory completion of residency training, certifying examination and meeting of all other requirements for specialty certification.

The AOBFP reviews and approves candidates for examination, administers and evaluates the examinations, and processes the diplomate certificate upon the awarding of that structure by the AOA.

For detailed certification requirements, applications, questions about certification and how to register for exams, contact the AOBFP.
