Yes! ACOFP is pleased to now offer organizational membership. Learn more about how it works.
Financial hardship and medical disability dues reductions and waivers granted by the Membership Committee are based on the perceived ability of the individual member to contribute to the support of ACOFP. Physicians earning minimum to no income from the practice of medicine may be offered a one-year waiver of dues, while those completely out of practice may have their dues permanently waived. Waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis. Evidence of need is required by the Membership Committee, including a copy of a current tax form and evidence of income and liabilities. All such information is considered confidential and only reviewed by the Committee members and select staff responsible for the preparation of such documents.
Waiver requests must be approved by the ACOFP Membership Committee. The review and approval process may take up to 3 months. However, once you submit the form and supporting documentation, we will flag your membership with a Pending Waiver status, so you will not receive further past dues notices during this period. To avoid your membership lapsing in the meantime, please submit the request form as soon as possible.
Yes! The Auxiliary to the ACOFP is formed of the spouses and significant others of family medicine students, residents, and physicians. It works to support the families of those just starting out in family medicine. Learn about how to get involved with the Auxiliary. Membership dues are $25 annually.
We have options to reduce or eliminate membership costs depending on your circumstances, from retirement to maternity/paternity leave.
Retirement
The cost of membership as a retired physician is $60 annually. However, you may be eligible for life membership through ACOFP (see below).
Life Membership
Life membership is available for active members who have reached the age of 70 years, or who have completed 50 years in the practice of osteopathic family medicine, whichever comes first, and who have been a member in good standing for 25 consecutive years immediately preceding. Life members do not pay dues and have voting privileges.
To submit a request for life membership, send a request to membership@acofp.org.
Yes. Maternity or paternity one-year membership waivers must be filed as a financial hardship. All financial waivers must meet the following requirements and include documentation that is submitted prior to the review:
- A personal letter describing the reason for the request.
- Copy of the most recent tax return.
If the member is applying for additional years after the initial approval, a copy of their spouse’s tax return must be submitted if they are not jointly filed.
