    Medical school is great at preparing you for a career in medicine, but little is ever taught about preparing for your financial future. There are many things to consider for someone who quickly goes from no income and large debt to a high-earning potential. This lecture will cover the basics for developing a holistic approach to financial planning. Brandon, a financial advisor, and Rachel, a new family physician in practice, are a married couple who will share their unique perspectives on managing finances for physicians. By identifying common pitfalls and providing tips from real life experience, they hope to inspire students to make smart decisions early that will lead to a stable financial future. This course covers a variety of topics, including insurances, budgeting, student debt, tax planning, retirement and estate planning.

    Join the ACOFP National Student Executive Board and incoming ACOFP President Bruce Williams, DO, FACOFP, who will welcome you to Dallas. Learn about the strategic direction of ACOFP and celebrate the success of the student association. Support your chapters as the recipients of the 2021–22 Student Chapter Awards are presented. The National Student Executive Board candidate virtual campaign speeches and election will open online.
     
12:00 – 1:30 pm   Student Community Service Project & Networking Lunch with Exhibitors
    The Student Association of the ACOFP has partnered with The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center in Dallas to provide welcome baskets to celebrate a guest’s recovery from homelessness and support them on their new journey by providing immediate necessities they will need when they transition into their own home. Join us in the Trinity Ballroom to pack a basket that has been donated by the student chapters of ACOFP.
     
1:30 – 2:00 pm   Healthcare Policies and Family Medicine

    Presenter: Elizabeth Pionk, DO
    This session will introduce you to the family physician's role in healthcare policies to push an agenda to improve health. We will cover the different ways we can address social determinants of health and health inequities, as well as the ways physicians work with patients and how that translates into improving our healthcare system. Finally, we will provide a list of different ways to get involved and encourage students and new physicians to do so.

    Do you have any questions about family medicine residency programs? Join members of the Resident Council in a fun presentation based on Dr. Seuss’ book and hear about their journey as osteopathic family medicine residents, challenges they have faced and the importance of seizing new opportunities, keeping an open mind and trying new things. Hear their stories on selecting a program, discussing sub-internships, ranking programs, match process and work-life balance, among others.

    This panel encompasses many of the different options that can be done within family medicine after training. With additional training, the scope of one's practice can change dramatically. Topics include geriatrics, sports medicine, palliative care, public health, sleep medicine, obstetrics, advanced procedures, emergency medicine and more.

    This session will showcase different inequities in medicine and how family medicine physicians can make a difference in dermatology, obstetrics, mental health, pain management and vaccination rates.

    Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a new and exciting technique that can give family medicine physicians the opportunity to gain insight into their patients right at the bedside. Join this interactive workshop to learn about the utility of POCUS while practicing how to use this fun and useful technology.

    Wound Care: Clinical Practice Discussion

    This session will discuss the scope of wound care, review proper ways of describing and measuring wounds, categorize and evaluate different wound care products and dressings, and explore various wound care modalities that are used to aid with healing. 
     
    Skin Lesion Biopsy and Excision in the Outpatient Office: A Hands-On Training

    Many times, we are trained to perform only one treatment at a time and to stick with one process. Often patients do not respond immediately to just one method. The session will demonstrate how to easily incorporate multiple modalities in the treatment of commonly occurring musculoskeletal complaints, and to do so in limited time constraints.

    This panel session will discuss ways to engage patients in difficult conversations, such as end-of-life planning, obesity, patient refusal of physician recommendations and breaking bad news to patients.

    Explore the role of full-scope family physicians in assuring the success of a rural hospital and how that role has remained essentially the same since 1948. In addition, this session will review the contribution of specialists and generalists through the lens of effective rural healthcare delivery and keeping quality care close to home.
