FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT EXAMS

The In-Service Exam Plus (ISE+) is a new formative exam that will fulfill the AOA basic standard and ACGME requirements. It also includes an osteopathic component that will fulfill ACGME’s OPP/OMM formative assessment requirement for programs that have Osteopathic Recognition (OR). This is open to DOs, INTERNS AND MDs in AOA ACCREDITED and ACGME ACCREDITED programs WITH OSTEOPATHIC RECOGNITION.
The traditional In-Service Exam (ISE) is a formative exam that will fulfill the AOA basic standard and will fulfill ACGME’s formative assessment requirement for programs without OR. This is open to DOs, INTERNS AND MDs.
AOA Standard:Part Seven: Resident Requirements B. Resident Responsibilities Standard 7.1 d. Participate in the annual ACOFP In-Service Exam. (PLEASE NOTE THIS STANDARD IS FOR PROGRAMS THAT HAVE AOA ACCREDITATION)
ACGME Standard:V.A.2.b.(3).(a) The program must use an objective validated formative assessment method (e.g., in-training examination, chart stimulated recall).
The 2019 In-Service Examination will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
The In-Service Examination is a requirement in the ACOFP Basic Standards (VII.B.7.1d). Please be sure to plan your schedule accordingly.
CORTEx (Clinical Osteopathic Recognition Training Exam) is a formative stand-alone OPP/OMM exam that will fulfill the Osteopathic Recognition ACGME requirement. This is open to DOs, INTERNS AND MDs in AOA ACCREDITED and ACGME ACCREDITED programs WITH OSTEOPATHIC RECOGNITION.
Osteopathic Recognition Requirement: V.A.2 Formative Evaluation f. There must be objective formative assessment of osteopathic medical knowledge and procedural skills. This should include:
A standardized assessment of OPP knowledge; and,
An assessment of skill proficiency in OMT, as applicable to the specialty.
The 2019 Clinical Osteopathic Recognition Training Examination (CORTEx) will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
CORTEx is designed to help residency programs with Osteopathic Recognition status meet the ACGME requirement to conduct a formative exam.
BASIC TRAINING STANDARDS
ACOFP offers an array of tools and training resources designed to help osteopathic medicine residency program directors to better manage their residents and residency programs.
Basic Standards for residency and fellowship training in osteopathic family medicine are developed by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and administered by the ACOFP.
