Distinguished Service Award 

The ACOFP Distinguished Service Award may be presented to a professional or non-professional who has demonstrated outstanding service to the ACOFP. The recipient is nominated and selected by the ACOFP President.

Excellence in Advocacy Award

Advocacy is the first pillar in the ACOFP brand of “Advocacy, Education and Leadership.”  Advocacy is a primary reason that osteopathic family physicians pursue ACOFP membership. The ACOFP Board of Governors developed this award to publicly recognize members who significantly contribute their time and talents to national health care policy issues. 

In creating this Excellence in Advocacy Award, the ACOFP wants to honor the memory of a mentor to many in this profession – Dr. Marcelino J. Oliva, Jr., DO, FACOFP dist

The recipient is nominated and selected by the Board of Governors.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The ACOFP Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding individual who demonstrates career-long service to patients, to the profession of osteopathic family medicine, and to the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Nominees are solicited from recommendations of ACOFP Board members who provide a concise written summary of the nominee’s credentials. The Board may choose to not present the award in a particular year.

The recipient is nominated and selected by the Board of Governors.

Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award

The ACOFP Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award honors an individual who exemplifies the osteopathic family medicine profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching and has made significant, commendable, and long-standing contributions to the academic advancement of osteopathic students, residents and the osteopathic profession.

The ACOFP will recognize one individual for their accomplishments as the “Joseph W. Stella, DO, FACOFP dist. – ACOFP Osteopathic Family Physician Educator of the Year,” with a plaque during the ACOFP Annual Convention & Scientific Seminars. 

The application deadline is September 15 each year.

Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year

The  ACOFP Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year Award is presented to a member who exemplifies what the ACOFP believes that an osteopathic family physician should be.  Those chosen to receive this award have made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession and serve their local communities in numerous activities such as church, service organizations, scouting, PTAs, etc. This individual is a role model to peers and students. 

The recipient is selected by the Awards Committee.

The application deadline is September 15 each year.

Outstanding Female Leader Award

The award’s purpose is to recognize women physicians who serve as clinical role models, teachers, highly accomplished professional leaders and sources of inspiration for women and men who are in medical training. 

The ACOFP Outstanding Female Leader Award Criteria is: Nominee must be in active practice for five years or more; Nominee must be a current member of the national ACOFP; Nominee must receive at least one letter of recommendation from an ACOFP member and/or an ACOFP state society. Additional letters of support are highly encouraged.

Young Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year Award

The ACOFP Young Physician of the Year Award recognizes those deemed by the ACOFP Board of Governors as meeting the following criteria: completion of an AOA-approved family practice residency program; certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, active in osteopathic family practice for two to ten years; continuous membership in the ACOFP and in the ACOFP state chapter, if available; service at the national or state level in any leadership capacity; and demonstration of exemplary leadership qualities that would honor the memory of Michael F. Avallone, DO, FACOFP dist., after whom the Award is named. 

The recipient is nominated and selected by the Board of Governors.
