 Rural practices differ from others in many ways. Their practices are smaller and patients have different demographics and illnesses/injuries. Patients behave differently, and referrals to specialists are difficult – patients sometimes have to travel more than 100 miles. Information shared here is specifically geared to provide information and practice assistance for the rural physician.


Medicaid & Chip Reauthorization Act (MACRA) & the Rural Provider

MACRA, or the Quality Payment Program, has significant impact on rural providers. Physicians who practice at Rural Health Clinics or Federally Qualified Health Centers are exempt from reporting data under the QPP, unless they are seeing Medicare Part B patients at different clinics or hospitals. Learn about the four categories of data that make up the Quality Payment Program and determine the Composite Performance Score (CPS). All providers should be required to participate in federal pay-for-performance programs, but the measurements should reflect rural patient volume, demographics and practice size, according to an analysis requested by HHS.
