JEFFREY F. BROOKMAN, DO, FACOFP RECEIVES FELLOW AWARD OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC FAMILY PHYSICIANS
Jeffrey F. Brookman, DO, FACOFP of Las Vegas, Nevada, received his designation as a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) during its Annual Conclave of Fellows Award Ceremony on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the ACOFP 45th Annual Convention & Exhibition in Denver, Colorado.
The honorary designation of Fellow is bestowed upon those candidates who have contributed outstanding national and local service through teaching, authorship, research, or professional leadership. They have also contributed outstanding service in their professional career and family practice duties in their community and civic activities.
Dr. Brookman is a 1976 graduate of the University of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Missouri. Presently, Dr. Brookman works, as a physician for the Veteran’s Administration in Las Vegas, Nevada, is an Associate Professor for the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and attending for the Family Practice and Internal Medicine Residency Program. He had a solo practice in Las Vegas for many years, and was called to active duty to serve with the Marine Corps as a Battalion Surgeon, Division Surgeon, Regimental Surgeon and Group Surgeon, in Desert Storm, Somalia and most recently in Iraq. He was awarded a Silver Star in lieu of a Fifth Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon (Presidential Citation) and several Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
Before called to active duty, Dr. Brookman served as President of the Nevada Osteopathic Medical Association (three terms), President of the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine (two terms), Chief of Family Practice at Valley Medical Center (elected to two terms), and awarded the Humanitarian Physician of the Year Award by the Clark County Medical Society.
The ACOFP Fellows Crest for Writing Excellence was awarded to Dr. Brookman for his Fellows paper submission entitled, “Osteopathic Medicine: Then & Now, Getting Back to the Basics - A 140 Year Perspective.”
