Fellow Award

The designation, Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, FACOFP, signifies the recognition of a member’s experience, dedication and contribution of the highest order to the advancement of family practice by their peers.

Any active member of the College in good standing may, upon application, be elected to receive the designation of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP) upon fulfilling the requirements recommended by the Committee on Awards and approved by the Board of Governors.

Distinguished Fellow Award

The Distinguished Fellow Award honors the exceptional members of the Conclave of Fellows. This award will be presented to those Fellows who have distinguished themselves through service to ACOFP by attendance as well as support the governance and committee structures, locally and nationally.

ACOFP Fellows Outstanding Paper Crest Award

The Awards Committee annually presents between six and ten “ACOFP Fellows Outstanding Paper Crest Awards” to deserving ACOFP Fellow candidates.
 
The Crest Award recognizes exceptional Fellow candidate unpublished scientific papers that demonstrate thoughtful and critical thinking, plus a level of excellence suitable for publication in the Osteopathic Family Physician.
 
An ACOFP Fellow Crest is given to each recipient of the writing award along with their plaque at the Conclave of Fellows Awards Ceremony.

ACOFP Fellows Most Outstanding Scientific Paper Award Plaque – In addition to the crest and Fellows plaque, a separate plaque is presented to one Fellow nominee who writes the Most Outstanding scientific paper.

Conclave of Fellow Active Status Requirements

Active Fellow status is defined as having attended at least one official Fellows function at an ACOFP Annual Convention or AOA Annual Convention during the three most recent calendar years. 

Executive Council of Conclave of Fellows

The mission of the ACOFP Conclave of Fellows is to encourage, recognize, and reward those board certified osteopathic family physicians who have demonstrated leadership within the osteopathic profession and in their communities on a local, state, and national level. The ACOFP Conclave supports projects that promote education and fellowship among osteopathic medical students, interns, residents and practicing family physicians. The Conclave advocates the support and enhancement of osteopathic family practice residency programs and membership growth and enrichment of the ACOFP and of the Conclave of Fellows. Members of the Conclave will serve as advocates for the ACOFP and the osteopathic profession in all issues that affect osteopathic family physicians and their patients.

Executive Council of Conclave of Fellows Election Process

The Executive Council of the Conclave of Fellows shall consist of nine (9) members, including the elected Council Secretary.  The nine (9) standing council members and chairs shall serve a maximum of up to three (3) consecutive three-year terms, with the exception that the members may complete the term in which nine (9) years or more of service is completed. Three members will be re-elected or elected annually to assure continuity to serve on the Council. To serve on the Council a candidate must be an active Fellow and have been a Fellow for at least two (2) years. The Chair and Vice Chair of the Executive Council will be selected annually by the Executive Council after the election of the new Executive Council. The Secretary of the Council shall be nominated and elected by the entire Conclave, for a term of three years assuming that he/she has not already served nine (9) years on the Council. A position on the Executive Council will be deemed “vacant” if the member fails to attend three consecutive meetings of the Council. Minutes of the meetings of the Conclave of Fellows will be reproduced and mailed to all active Fellows by the ACOFP office. Members of the Executive Council will be nominated and elected by the entire Conclave during the spring Business Meeting.

Duties of the Executive Council of Conclave of Fellows  include: To act as the executive council for the entire conclave of ACOFP Fellows; To review applications for Distinguished Fellow and recommend those qualified candidates to the Awards Committee; To determine active status of fellows and review the application of those in-active fellows who wish to become active; To set the program and agenda for ACOFP fellows meetings and functions; To Keep minutes of the executive council meetings; Any other duties as determined by the Conclave or the ACOFP Board.
