ACOFP Donates to ATSU-KCOM after Tornado Damage
ACOFP has donated $1,000 to the tornado clean-up efforts at ATSU-KCOM that continue with the help of volunteers. The college has requested monetary support for the victims and the local Red Cross chapter.

The donation was made to the "ATSU Student Emergency Assistance Fund" which will directly assist 21 students who have been displaced by the May 13 evening's storms. This fund will provide financial assistance to ATSU students exhibiting emergency need for expenses related to the crisis; this assistance will not need to be paid back. They are accepting donations online via credit card. For further information, contact the Development Office at 660.626.2180 or at development@atsu.edu.

Senate HELP Committee Examines Delivery System Reform
Last week, the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee held a hearing on "Delivery Reform: The Roles of Primary and Specialty Care in Innovative New Delivery Models." Members of the committee joined witnesses in expressing the importance of care coordination between primary care physicians and specialists. Additionally, the concept of the medical home also was discussed as a means of coordinating care. The looming physician shortage was another topic of much discussion and Senators and witnesses agreed that reform of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) system is necessary to ensure a future, sufficient supply of physicians.

Health Care Reform Outlook
Work continues as the House and Senate Committees with jurisdiction over health care reform push toward the release of their legislative packages. Last week, the chairmen of the three House Committees with jurisdiction over health care reform, Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY), House Ways and Means Committee, Representative George Miller (D-CA), House Education and Labor Committee, and Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA), House Energy and Commerce Committee, joined Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) in announcing their goal of the House passing health care reform legislation prior to the August recess. The Senate Committees with health care jurisdiction, Senate Finance Committee and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee have set an equally ambitious timeline. We expect to see legislative language from both houses of Congress in early June, followed by hearings and markups and then floor debate.
