ACOFP Recognizes Student Chapters For Service Projects and Programs
An invigorating convention experience primes students to excel both  in the classroom and with their patients.

Students from 23 colleges of osteopathic medicine from around the country traveled to Kissimmee, Florida to participate in the ACOFP’s 44th Annual Convention & Exhibition from March 14-18, 2007.

Students learned OMM with hands on demonstrations, attended a Panel Discussion at which OMSII, OMSIII, OMSIV, and Strongest Link Residents answered many of their professional and personal questions about school, family and the practice of osteopathic medicine.   They also attended the annual Osteopathic Residency Program Fair that showcased most of the AOA- accredited residency programs, enjoyed Fun Night at the House of Blues, and watched ACOFP governance in action during the two Congress of Delegates sessions.

The Exhibit Hall provided students the opportunity to view the future.  Pharmaceutical companies presented details on the newest drugs available to treat common and complicated illnesses.  Add to this the emerging technology exhibited, plus tools of the trade, and students benefited from a very valuable educational opportunity

Student Chapter Awards
Students were also on hand to applaud the recipients of the ACOFP 2006-07 Student Chapter Awards, presented during the Congress of Delegates held Saturday, March 17.

Strongest Link/Residency Program Profile

NSUCOM/Duke/Southern Regional AHEC

Program #: 167087
Program Description: You can go anywhere from here...but we'd like you to stay!
If you are a medical student looking for a great place to work and grow, you've found it! This section covers specific information on the Duke/Southern Regional AHEC Family Medicine Residency Program. The  program operates a model family practice in which faculty and residents participate. Residents, faculty, and staff are organized into teams responsible for patient health care. Each team has nine examining rooms, a faculty office, a nursing station, and a dictation room. Leading each team is a full-time faculty family physician, who is available for advice and instruction.
If you're a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, we have the first approved DO residency in the state.

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Fayetteville, N.C. is the home of the U.S. Army's Fort Bragg, from where thousands of elite paratroopers deploy on missions to the world's hot spots.  Fayetteville was one of only 10 cities in the United States in 2001 to receive the coveted "All-America City" award from the National Civic League.

The Airborne and Special Operations Museum in the downtown area has only been open for a year and is already the most visited attraction in North Carolina. Other areas of interest include Fayetteville’s Botanical Gardens, the Museum of the Cape Fear, as well as Fort Bragg, where on certain days you can actually watch parachute training jumps. We also have all the shopping, lodging and restaurant choices of metropolitan areas. We’re just a short stop off Interstate 95, about an hour from the South Carolina border.

Strongest Link: Erin Black DO.  She is available to answer your questions via e-mail at erin.black@sr-ahec.org
