Opportunities for Renewal & Discovery Cited as Personal Highlights
During The 44th Annual ACOFP Convention & Exhibition

Educational programs and workshops offered during ACOFP’s Annual conventions were of special valuable to OFP’s covering topics such as Treatment of type II diabetes, Primary care challenges in treating upper respiratory tract disease and the latest news regarding (HPV) recombinant vaccine.  But just as rewarding for members was time to catch up with old friends during Fun Night at the House of Blues or on the golf course during the Auxiliary Golf Tournament at Mystic Dunes Golf Club.
Several prestigious awards presented during the convention included:

The ACOFP Family Physician of the Year
The ACOFP Family Physician of the Year Award is presented to a member who exemplifies the ideals of the practice of osteopathic family physicians. Recipients have made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession and served their local communities through service organizations, scouting, PTA’s, etc. The individual should be a role model to peers and students. Criteria include ACOFP membership, active in osteopathic family practice for at least the past 15 years, and nomination by the ACOFP or AOA state society.

ACOFP Lifetime Achievement Award
The ACOFP Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding individual who demonstrates career-long service to patients, to the profession of osteopathic family medicine, and to the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.  Nominees are solicited from recommendations of ACOFP Board members, who provide a concise written summary of the nominee’s credentials. The Board may choose to not present the award in a particular year.

ACOFP Distinguished Service Award
The ACOFP Distinguished Service Award may be presented to a professional or non-professional who has demonstrated outstanding service to the ACOFP.

ACOFP Young Physician of the Year Award
Named in Honor of Michael F. Avallone, DO, FACOFP dist.
The ACOFP Young Physician of the Year Award is presented according to the following criteria: completion of an AOA-approved family practice residency program; certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, active in osteopathic family practice for two to ten years; continuous membership in the ACOFP and in the ACOFP state chapter, if available; service at the national or state level in any leadership capacity; and demonstration of exemplary leadership qualities that would honor the memory of Michael F. Avallone, DO, FACOFP dist., after whom the Award is named.

ACOFP Foundation Names New Member to Legacy Circle

During the ACOFP’s 44th Annual Convention & Exhibition in Kissimmee, Florida, a new name was added to the Legacy Circle roster. By virtue of his generous commitment to the Foundation, James Michael Lally, DO, FACOFP was presented the prestigious award by the Foundation President, R. Gregg Maul, DO, FACOFP.

The Legacy Circle was created in 2004 to recognize and honor members and friends who make long-term contributions to the Foundation, either through planned giving or as part of an estate plan.
Contributions to the Foundation continue to support student scholarships, writing awards and new educational programs in support of osteopathic family practice. Specific funds include:

  • The Frank J. McDevitt, DO, FACOFP Memorial Leadership Fund, which fosters and develops future leaders through student and residency advocacy programs.
  • The Namey/Burnett Fund which supports accomplished medical writing; and
  • The ACOFP Family Practice Disaster Fund, created in 2005 to assist members who suffered the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but is available to members who are in need of financial support for other reasons.

In May 2007, the ACOFP Education &Research Foundation will send information to ACOFP members with instructions on how to join the Legacy Circle. Included with the mailing will be instructions on transferring investments to the Foundation. This method of contribution provides significant tax advantages for the donor.

ACOFP Intensive Update and Board Review in Osteopathic Family Medicine

What is the Online Membership Directory?
It is a searchable database of the ACOFP Membership that enables you to communicate directly via email with other members and make updates in your own personal record.

There are four search criteria available:

  • Member Name
  • City/State/Zip
  • Medical School
  • ACOFP Fellows

The search will return an ACOFP member detail that includes:

  • Name
  • Address
  • City, State, Zip
  • Phone
  • Fax
  • Email
  • Medical School
  • Member Type (Student, Resident . . etc.)

Who has access to the Online Membership Directory?
Access to the online ACOFP Member Directory is a benefit of being an ACOFP Member. Members can search the full database of current members, and update their own information at any time.

What is the importance of ACOFP members updating their listing information?
The Online Membership Directory is a valuable tool to increase exposure and an opportunity to effectively network with fellow OFP’s.  The thoroughness and accuracy of the information contained in the Online Membership Directory is crucial.

Updating your membership information is as easy as one, two, three:

  1. Go to www.acofp.org
  2. Login to the Members only section with your username (AOA/ACOFP ID Number) and password (last name and the year 2002 with no spaces; i.e. smith2002)
    Troubleshooting: Forgot your username and password or don’t know your ID number? No problem. Just enter your email address and ACOFP will instantly email you your credentials.
  3. Once logged in, update your membership information on the left tool bar.
