Insurers Pay for Web-Based Physician Visits
Health insurers Aetna and Cigna have announced that they will pay for online physician visits, and patients will be required to contribute a copayment for the visits, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Aetna on Jan. 1 expanded a pilot project in California, Florida and Washington to the rest of the country, and Cigna said it would begin paying for online visits in January 2009.

Here is another call for each of our members to be current and capable in the use of all forms of modern communication and practice technology including Electronic Health Records and e-prescribing. The programs developed by ACOFP’s Practice Management Committee and provided at the annual spring and fall conventions will help each of you compete in today’s market place.

ACOFP’s Fit for Life - April is Cancer Control Month
President Bush has declared April 2008 as Cancer Control Month. The majority of osteopathic physicians are themselves not in compliance with the preventative medical practices and screening diagnostic studies that have been shown to extend life and wellness.

Be honest with yourself when I ask: Are you current with your physical examination and are your own B/P, Cholesterol and Blood Sugar at guidelines? Have you had your colonoscopic examination, pap smear, prostate evaluation and mammogram? Are you compliant with sun screen? Are you one of the last to quit smoking? Take care of yourself!! ACOFP cares, your family cares and your patients care, so should you!

ACOFP’s Residency Program Directory - Faster and Easier to Use
The 'Guide to Selecting an Osteopathic Family Practice Residency Program', now in its second edition, helps students identify the locations, scope of training provided, salaries and benefits and contact information for more than 100 osteopathic family practice residency programs around the country. Use the updated Residency Program Directory to research programs that are of interest to you. Resident Recruiter contact information is listed within each residency program profile - easy access for students looking for answers to their questions.

Back to Campus
