Flu Vaccine Pilot Program Delivers Timely Immunizations in Michigan
The Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA), in conjunction with Meijer, conducted a Flu Vaccine Pilot Program for the 2007 influenza season. Regardless of flu vaccine supply, physicians often receive their flu vaccine orders too late to offer vulnerable patients timely immunizations. Because larger orders of vaccine are generally delivered first by vaccine distributors, the MOA combined the orders of pilot physician offices with Meijer’s vaccine orders, thereby ensuring more timely delivery to physician offices through Meijer’s statewide distribution network. The MOA plans to expand this program to up to 50 physicians in Michigan for the 2008 flu season. If you have questions regarding the pilot program or are interested in participating, please contact Lisa Neufer at (800) 657-1556.

Recall of One Lot of Pre-Filled Heparin Lock Flush Solution
AM2 PAT, Inc., and FDA informed health care professionals and consumers of a nationwide recall of one lot of Pre-Filled Heparin Lock Flush Solution (5 ml in 12 mL Syringes), Lot # 070926H. The heparin IV flush syringes have been found to be contaminated with Serratia marcescens, which have resulted in patient infections. This type of bacterial infection could present a serious adverse health consequence that could lead to life-threatening injuries and/or death. Consumers and user facilities should stop using the product immediately, quarantine the affected product, and return it to the distributor immediately..

Register for the 2008 ACOFP Convention!
This year’s convention will feature a workshop on Point-of-Service Testing. Technology has provided physicians with more gadgets for Point-of-Service (POS) testing using equipment which is smaller, easier to use and more affordable. Physicians may want to be aware of this technology for out-of-clinic patient care at homes, extended care facilities, and sporting events as well as to incorporate these services in their practices.

Sign up today for the Pre-Convention Ski Package
On Sunday, March 9 through Monday, March 10, 2008, ACOFP has arranged a Pre-Convention Ski Package for attendees. Winter Park has more than twenty-four lifts including seven high-speed express quads, one high speed six person chairlift, three triple chairlifts, seven double chairlifts, five magic carpets, and one rope tow. In addition to the many ski runs, Winter Park is a classic mountain town nestled against a fabulous background and is full of quaint boutiques, delightful cafés, and picturesque scenery.
