National Medical Association Elects Sarah James to Governing Board
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Sarah J. James, a third-year medical student at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Des Moines, Iowa, was elected as the Student Academic Member on the Board of Governors for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
Her election took place on March 16, 2007 during the ACOFP Annual Convention in Kissimmee, Florida. The ACOFP is the national organization of more than 25,000 practicing osteopathic family physicians and physicians-in-training.
Student Dr. James was president of the DMU Student Chapter of the ACOFP in 2005-2006, where she was involved in multiple community service activities. She also has been involved in lobbying activities and served as a Teaching Assistant.
Sarah grew up on a farm in rural southwestern Wisconsin and is a 1995 graduate of Darlington High School, Darlington, WI where she was active in the music, drama, and art departments. She attended Beloit College in Beloit, WI, graduating in 1999 with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with departmental honors.
Prior to attending DMU, Sarah worked as a pre-clinical pharmaceutical biochemist and quality assurance auditor. Also between college and osteopathic medical school, Sarah volunteered with the Red Cross, the Dane County Human Society, and at the University of Wisconsin Hospital.
