Dr. Sampson Named 2007 ACOFP Young Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Michael J. Sampson, DO was selected as the 2007 Young Osteopathic Physician of the Year by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians during opening ceremonies on March 14 at the ACOFP Annual Convention in Kissimmee, Florida.
The ACOFP recognized Dr. Sampson for his service to students and faculty at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, for his role as faculty advisor to the ACOFP student chapter at VCOM, and for his leadership abilities as a young osteopathic family physician.
Dr. Sampson is an assistant professor and chair of family medicine at VCOM, where he supports the school’s mission of developing osteopathic family physicians to serve the rural and medically-underserved areas of Virginia, North Carolina and the Appalachian region.
As a faculty member, he teaches primary care, sports medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine and clinical case correlations to students. He also serves as a team physician at Virginia Tech and is a past president of ACOFP’s Virginia state society.

Greg Maul, DO, FACOFP, President of the ACOFP Education & Research Foundation, which sponsors the Award. “He is an outstanding mentor and spokesperson for our profession.”
The ACOFP Young Osteopathic Family Physician Award is dedicated to the memory of
ACOFP Past President Michael F. Avallone, Jr., DO, FACOFP dist., and honors those who demonstrate early contributions and leadership potential for the profession.
