ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Marcelino J. Oliva, DO, FACOFP was selected as the recipient of the 2007 Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year Award by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians during opening ceremonies on March 14 at the ACOFP Annual Convention in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Award recognizes Dr. Oliva’s contributions to his community and the specialty of osteopathic family medicine, particularly his tireless advocacy on federal legislative and regulatory issues facing the profession.

Dr. Oliva currently chairs the ACOFP Committee on Federal Legislation and has been active in both the Florida Society of the ACOFP and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association.  He is widely recognized as an expert on insurance and reimbursement issues.

Perhaps best known as the catalyst for the Osteopathic Political Action Committee (OPAC), Dr. Oliva helped grow the OPAC form $65,000 to $800,000 in eight years.

“Due in great measure to Dr. Oliva’s leadership, OPAC has raised almost $3.1 million since 1979 and today stands as one of the largest, most respected medical PACs on Capitol Hill,” stated 2007-2008 ACOFP President Steven F. Rubin, DO, FACOFP dist. when presenting Dr. Oliva with the Award.

Dr. Oliva was in solo practice in Dade City, Florida for more than 30 years.  He is a 1964 graduate of the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine.
